SWOON- The Run Up

I directed this documentary film series with Upper Playground on different contemporary artists from my extended community of friends, collaborators, homeys, and hero's. This was before the term Street Art- it was just getting up your way outside, inside or both. She and I also collaborated on an article in Juxtapoz magazine. It was my first time working with the magazine and my photo made the front cover! I was hyped but it didn't last because I mistakingly printed her real name in the article which at the time was still on the low. I didn't get the memo but I sure got the beef. My bad Swoonifer. your secret is still safe with me -J

Swoon – Ashore and Afloat

Oh, you've seen her: from New York's P.S. 1 and Deitch Projects to Hui No'eau on Maui and Berlin's gritty street corners. Notorious for constructing a giant floating raft and sailing it down river (twice!), she is neither a pirate nor a street artist. And even if her real name is known these days, that is also neither here nor there. Join us as we swing by Berlin's Urban Art Info Gallery to see what else the ineffable Swoon has got up her sleeve in Gestalten.tv's latest interview.  Related Books http://shop.gestalten.com/the-upset-662.html http://shop.gestalten.com/papercraft-506.html More podcasts on www.gestalten.tv (video originally published October 2009)

Off Book: Street Art

The street is a space where art thrives, and a place where artists can shape the public aesthetic. Olek, a sculpture who knits, and Swoon, a mixed media artist, disrupt daily life with work that creates wonder, emotion, and humor. Equally at home in museums and galleries, both artists also create installations that challenge the formats of traditional art spaces. With powerful layers of meaning, beautiful aesthetics, and using unique media, these two prolific creators are pushing the boundaries of contemporary art. ACCLAIMmag.com | SWOON INTERVIEW

Renowned for her delicate paste ups and large scale installation work, New York artist, Swoon, recently made a trip to Melbourne for her first Australian exhibition, Thekla, at the Metro Gallery in Armadale. The petite artist was run off her feet when we visited her in the gallery, but she managed to sit down with us to chat about her upbringing, her artistic process and future projects. In this nice little film by ACCLAIM lads, Louis Mitchell and Michael Danischewski, she spoke extensively about space, context and participation and how these inspire and impact her work. www.acclaimmag.com
